A letter to the editor

With the kind permission of Ben Phillips (Spatial Ecology and Evolution Lab). Feel free to share!

Dear Editor,

Thank you for considering me as a reviewer for this article. I take peer review seriously and am very willing to serve the scientific community in this way.

I am also strongly committed to open science, however, and am no longer willing to donate my time to profit-driven journals. Scientific publishers lock up publicly-funded science and drain around $23 billion US dollars annually from research institutions globally.

I would be very happy to review this manuscript, but not for a profit-driven journal. I will reserve my service for publication and review processes that make open science a fundamental tenet, such as (for example), Peer Community In…

I appreciate that this makes your job somewhat more difficult, and I apologise for that. But I also feel that this stance is an important one to take if we value science, and scientists.

Regards.
